Position Overview
The Solar Installer 3 is a senior field technician and team lead responsible for executing complex PV installation tasks, ensuring quality control, and assisting the Foreman with crew coordination. This role requires deep technical knowledge, leadership presence, and the ability to mentor Installer 1 and 2 crew members on the job.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership — Lead racking, module, and electrical installation sections of projects; serve as point-of-contact for Foreman when delegating tasks; mentor and train Level 1 and 2 Solar Installers.
- Wire Work — Perform wire pulls, wire management, and terminations; verify installations meet code, design, and safety requirements.
- System Testing — Perform system and component testing using a multimeter; troubleshoot installation issues in real time.
- Layout — Plan and prepare site layouts ensuring compliance with site assessments, schematics, and customer needs.
- System Assembly — Supervise and assist in assembling and mounting structural framing, solar panels, and electrical equipment.
- Electrical Connections — Supervise and assist in connecting PV panels to the building's electrical system with proper terminations and grounding per code.
- Weatherproofing — Oversee the application of weather sealants and weatherproofing at all roof penetrations and equipment locations.
- System Testing and Documentation — Activate and test PV systems; perform QA checks including grounding measurements; document installation details.
- Safety and Compliance — Adhere to all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and electrical codes (NEC).
- Team Collaboration — Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and customers; attend mandatory training sessions.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in solar installation or similar field.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid state driver's license and clean driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; work on feet for extended periods; climb ladders; work on rooftops.
- Experience in various weather conditions and crawl spaces.
- Strong understanding of NEC and PV system requirements.
- Proficiency in reading construction documents and electrical schematics.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Certified Forklift/Telehandler Operator license required.
- OSHA 30 Certificate required.
- Leadership or crew lead experience a plus.
