Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, motivated Veterinary Assistant to join our team. We are a small animal and exotic veterinary practice on Chicago's northwest side. East meets west as we provide traditional and alternative modalities to provide comprehensive, individualized care to our patients. Our water treadmill and pool enables us to provide physical therapy as well as medical therapy, thus treating the whole patient.

Duties
- Assist veterinarian with outpatient exams, including obtaining history and diagnostic samples, completing in-house laboratory testing and preparing samples for reference labs
- Perform treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian
- Calculating drug doses, administering and dispensing medications as directed.
- Monitoring anesthesia, prepping for anesthetic procedures, assisting in such procedures and recovering patients from anesthesia
- Client communication, including education, value of services, proper at-home-care of patients as well as conducting follow up visits, telehealth visits, recheck exam and technician appointments as appropriate.
- Work well as a member of a team - manage conflict with team members and clients professionally and compassionately
- Speak confidently regarding fees and payment expectations and be transparent regarding costs. Offer treatment options.
- Maintain a clean and pleasant work environment and assist others when needed.
- Be punctual and ready to work. Clock in and out as expected. Work shift as scheduled. Remain productive during the workday. Take scheduled breaks and Give ample notice when unable to work all or part of a shift.
Requirements
- Ability to operate medical equipment such as X-ray machines, laboratory analyzers, and anesthesia systems proficiently.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, surgical assistance procedures, and emergency medicine protocols.
- Strong communication skills for exceptional client service and teamwork.
- Experience with veterinary software systems (Pulse preferred) for record-keeping and scheduling.
- Experience with alternative medicine therapies a plus
- Scheduling flexibility a plus.
- Rehabilitation therapy experience preferred.

Pay: $17.00 - $18.50 per hour
