Job Description:
The Siena University Department of History is hiring an adjunct faculty to teach one section of HIST 103: West & the World 1500-1900, in the fall 2026 semester. This survey course is part of the university's core curriculum serving students in every major.
Primary Duties
- Teach courses in accordance with university and departmental policies and procedures

Teach courses in accordance with the course goals and student learning outcomes established by the Department of History, and uphold the mission and values of the university.

Hold office hours according to academic policy.

Prepare and submit timely grade reports and other reports on student performance as may be scheduled or required.

Organize class activities and assignments, relating them to the overall learning outcomes of the course.

Demonstrate effective instructional methodology as documented by the Adjunct Review Committee on the class observation form
Course to be taught:
History 103 West and the World 1500-1900
This course provides a broad historical study of the main trends and events in global history from 1500 to 1900. It examines how patterns of interaction in the past have contributed to shaping historical change. Students will learn to understand and appreciate the important role of cross-cultural communication between the civilizations of "the West" and the rest of the World. They will examine the human condition over time, both the role of the powerful and the powerless. This course also introduces students to the discipline and methodologies of history. Students will engage with enduring questions of human concern, demonstrate competence in historical literacy, and practice intercultural knowledge and respect.
Job Requirements:

Applicants must possess a Master's degree in History; a PhD in History is preferred.

Prior university teaching experience and familiarity with Canvas LMS is preferred.
Additional Information:
Salary: $1,333.34 per contact hour
