Position Summary
Grand Journey Behavioral Health Solutions is seeking a highly qualified, compassionate, and experienced Physician (Psychiatrist – MD/DO) to provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and medication management services for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults with mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders.
The Physician will serve as a vital member of the multidisciplinary treatment team by providing psychiatric leadership, collaborating with licensed clinicians, psychiatric nurse practitioners, nurses, case managers, peer specialists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of integrated, evidence-based, person-centered behavioral healthcare.
The Physician is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of medical practice while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA, DEA requirements, and Georgia behavioral health standards.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesClinical Services
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, mental status examinations, and diagnostic assessments.
- Diagnose psychiatric disorders using the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5-TR).
- Develop individualized psychiatric treatment plans based on comprehensive clinical assessments.
- Provide medication evaluations and ongoing psychopharmacological management.
- Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications as clinically appropriate.
- Evaluate medication effectiveness, side effects, contraindications, and treatment adherence.
- Perform suicide risk assessments, homicide risk assessments, violence assessments, and crisis evaluations.
- Determine appropriate levels of psychiatric care, including outpatient treatment, intensive outpatient services, partial hospitalization, inpatient hospitalization, or emergency intervention.
- Evaluate and manage patients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
- Coordinate medical care with primary care physicians and specialty providers as needed.
- Order and interpret laboratory tests, toxicology screenings, and diagnostic studies necessary for psychiatric treatment.
- Monitor patients receiving psychotropic medications requiring laboratory surveillance.
- Provide consultation regarding psychiatric emergencies and behavioral crises.
- Participate in discharge planning and continuity of care.
Medication Management
- Perform initial psychiatric medication evaluations.
- Monitor medication effectiveness and patient response.
- Adjust psychiatric medications based on clinical presentation.
- Educate patients and families regarding medications, potential side effects, risks, benefits, and treatment expectations.
- Monitor controlled substance prescribing in accordance with DEA regulations.
- Maintain safe prescribing practices using evidence-based clinical guidelines.
Collaboration
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
- Collaborate with therapists, counselors, nurses, psychiatric nurse practitioners, case managers, peer specialists, and administrative staff.
- Provide psychiatric consultation to clinical staff regarding diagnosis, medication management, and treatment planning.
- Support integrated behavioral healthcare by coordinating psychiatric and therapeutic services.
- Participate in clinical case conferences and peer consultations.
- Assist in developing organizational clinical protocols and psychiatric treatment guidelines.
Documentation
- Complete psychiatric evaluations within required organizational timeframes.
- Document medication management visits accurately and timely.
- Complete treatment plans and psychiatric progress notes using the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Ensure documentation meets payer, accreditation, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate medical records while protecting patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws governing medical practice.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and performance improvement activities.
- Assist with utilization review and peer review activities.
- Maintain current professional licensure and certifications.
- Participate in continuing medical education and maintain competency in psychiatric practice.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Attend staff meetings and clinical supervision meetings.
- Participate in agency committees as assigned.
- Assist with program development and implementation of psychiatric services.
- Maintain professional relationships with referral sources and community partners.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Medical Director or Executive Director.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency Program.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
- Active and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Georgia.
- Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration.
- Current Georgia Controlled Substance Registration (if applicable).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of psychiatric practice in an outpatient behavioral health setting.
- Experience treating children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations.
- Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness (SMI).
- Experience treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
- Experience providing telepsychiatry services.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and recovery-oriented treatment models.
- Experience using Electronic Health Records (EHR/EMR).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis and treatment.
- Expertise in psychopharmacology.
- Strong knowledge of DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria.
- Knowledge of evidence-based psychiatric interventions.

Work Environment
This position is performed in an outpatient behavioral health clinic providing psychiatric services to individuals experiencing mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders. The Physician works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in a professional, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented environment.

Pay: $101,300.90 - $161,322.80 per year
