Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly upon arrival, providing exceptional customer service and guiding them through check-in procedures
- Manage patient appointments using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Open Dental, ensuring accurate scheduling and timely follow-up
- Verify insurance coverage by reviewing health insurance information, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private plans, maintaining compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies
- Being organized in submitting insurance preauthorizations
- Collect and review medical documentation, including care plans, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes, and billing information to facilitate accurate claims processing
- Handle phone communication professionally, answering inquiries about appointments, insurance questions, and general clinic information with proper phone etiquette
- Assist with medical billing and collections by submitting claims electronically and following up on unpaid accounts using health information management best practices
- Maintain organized medical records and ensure proper filing of documents in accordance with health information management standards
- Support clinic staff with administrative tasks such as data entry, typing reports, filing paperwork, and managing office supplies using Microsoft Office tools
Experience
- Prior experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment is highly preferred
- Strong understanding of health insurance processes including Medicare billing and documentation review procedures
- Familiarity with dental coding, and medical billing practices to ensure accurate claim submissions
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and electronic health records management software
- Bilingual abilities are a plus to effectively communicate with diverse patient populations
- Demonstrated customer service skills combined with clerical experience in a healthcare or hospital setting are highly valued
