Special Education Mentor I / Transition Specialist , F/T or P/T Work
Project Genesis, a local nonprofit that supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is hiring Special Education Mentor / Transition Specialist to work one-on-one with students with disabilities as they transition from high school into adulthood.

In this rewarding role, you'll provide individualized instruction that helps students develop the academic, vocational, and independent living skills needed for adult success. Your responsibilities will include:
- Teaching life skills including communication, problem-solving, budgeting, workplace readiness, and independent living.
- Supporting students as they work towards educational, employment, and personal goals.
- Maintaining student progress notes and Individualized Education Program (IEP) portfolios.
- Implementing positive behavior supports and evidence-based teaching strategies.
- Traveling locally (within approximately 30 miles) to provide services where students learn and thrive.
To qualify for this opportunity, we require you to have an Associate Degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Human Services, Social Work, or a related field and:
- At least one year of experience in education, special education, behavioral health, or human services. Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and transition services is preferred.
- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record for the last 3 years.
- Reliable transportation and proof of automobile insurance.
- Ability to obtain a Connecticut Public Passenger Endorsement (A) after hire (company reimbursement provided).
- Ability to pass required pre-employment and random 10-panel drug screening.
- Ability to travel locally throughout the service area.
