SPJA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating and uplifting the unique and deep culture that surrounds Japanese animation. Our roots originated from Cal Animage Alpha, an anime club at UC Berkeley, which co-sponsored the first Anime Expo in 1992, along with its predecessor Anime Con in 1991.

Purpose of this role: The Junior Financial/Business Analyst provides overall support for the period end results, preparation of forecasts, growth plans, financial analysis, reporting and budgeting. This position reports directly to the Financial/Business Analyst Manager in forecasting and analysis.
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree required (Finance, Business, Analytics or a related field preferred) plus 1-2 years of finance/business analyst experience.
Functions of this Role: The major areas of responsibility include:

Support corrective actions across strategy, finance and operations by analyzing variances, identifying trends and assessing internal and external factors

Prepare and assist in financial planning and analysis of revenue streams, cost center spending, project analysis, expenses and capital expenditures

Reconcile balances and transactions by identifying discrepancies and ensuring data accuracy and integrity

Collect, clean and analyze data to prepare reports and presentations of findings, insight and recommendations for the Financial/Business Analyst Manager

Assist with the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses
-
Calculate and assess returns on investments of new projects and opportunities

Assist in supporting year-end audits conducted by independent auditors

Prepare and provide accurate and timely financial information, including short & long term financial planning and analysis

Analyze data for periodic and ad hoc reporting, projections, modeling, and presentation materials

Assist with period-end close activities by working closely with the Accounting & Finance group to ensure accuracy and completeness of entries

Work with the financial/business analyst to manage P&L expectations

Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks and Microsoft Power BI is preferred

Must be able to perform required tasks at convention(s) away from the SPJA office.

Ability to quickly learn various in-house software applications and platforms
Location: The Junior Financial/Business Analyst will be based out of SPJA’s principal office. However, this position must also be able to attend off-site meetings, conferences, and events as necessary. Sometimes this will require out-of-town travel.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The duties of this position are performed indoors in a business/office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud during events and minimal during non-event times.

During convention, this individual must have the ability to stand/walk for up to four hours at a time as there is constant walking required during the convention.

The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery, such as copier, scanner, printer, etc.

The person in this position frequently communicates verbally with coworkers, supervisors and volunteers. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Compensation: Starts at $25 per hour, commensurate on experience.
