Substitute Teacher Service Inc. is seeking qualified applicants to fill Building Substitute roles in the West Shore School District.
Schools Available: Allen Academy Middle School, New Cumberland Middle School, Hillside Elementary, Washington Heights Elementary
All candidates must be willing to travel to all schools within the district and must work 5 days each week.
**Must hold a bachelor’s degree**
The position starts on 8/17/26 and runs through the end of the school year.
Rate of pay is $170 per day, paid through Substitute Teacher Service.

Job Overview
We are seeking energetic and adaptable Building Substitutes to step into classrooms on short notice, ensuring seamless continuity of instruction across various grade levels and subjects. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support student learning, manage classroom activities, and contribute positively to school communities. As a Building Substitute, you will be responsible for maintaining a productive learning environment, implementing lesson plans, and engaging with students from diverse backgrounds.
Responsibilities
- Implement teacher-prepared lesson plans and adapt instruction as needed to meet student needs
- Manage classroom behavior and foster a respectful, inclusive atmosphere for all students
- Support classroom management strategies to promote engagement and minimize disruptions
- Assist with curriculum implementation in subjects such as literacy, math, early childhood education, and special education
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents regarding student progress and classroom activities
- Utilize educational technologies and computers to enhance instructional delivery
- Follow school policies, mandated reporting laws, and child safety protocols at all times
Qualifications
- Experience working with children in educational or childcare settings, including preschool or early childhood education
- Knowledge of curriculum development, lesson planning, and instructional adaptability
- Strong classroom management skills and experience working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Familiarity with behavior management techniques and special education practices, including working with individuals with autism
- Excellent communication skills for effective teacher collaboration and parent-teacher communication
- Proficiency in using computers and educational technologies to support instruction
- Understanding of mandated reporting laws and school policies related to student safety and well-being
- Prior experience in private schools or with literacy education, math instruction, or preschool programs is a plus
