Starting Minimum Hourly Pay Rate: $21.08; depending on qualifications and experience

About This Opportunity:
Performs intermediate skilled administrative support work assisting the public, receiving, processing, recording and accounting for utility revenue, taxes and various other fees, preparing and maintaining records and files, entering data, processing payments, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Service and Collection Supervisor and daily guidance of the CSR Lead.

Essential Functions:
- Assists customer in understanding information relative to their utility accounts; answers customers questions; assists customers with payment opportunities and issues, sets up customers on bank draft; assists customers with property tax questions and payments.
- Assists customers with new service, disconnects, reconnects, pay arrangements, taps, budget billing, water heater rebates, etc.; assists with business license questions.
- Works with finance to troubleshoot payment issues.
- Accepts and processes customer payments for utilities, community action vouchers, new service, reconnections, Development Service’s fees, business license, property tax, etc.; balances daily cash drawer and credit card receipts to end of day reports.
- Posts mail, lockbox, property tax payments to accounts; research payments not posted to customer’s account; troubleshoots returned mail and sends customer new bills with corrected information.
- Assists customers that have been disconnected for non-payment by assisting with payments via phone; verifies and completes service orders for non-payment and new construction.
- Communicates with meter readers regarding daily service orders; enters meter readings for customers.
- Scans customer contracts & other account information to the appropriate accounts; receives and sends faxes.
- Prepares various reports and other types of correspondence; prepares and maintains files and records.
- Serves as back up for various positions within the department.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- General knowledge of accounting terminology and account codes;
- T horough knowledge of standard office practices, techniques, procedures and equipment;
- Thorough knowledge in preparing reports and other types of correspondence;
- G eneral knowledge in the use of standard office software (e.g. Microsoft Office Professional);
- Ability to quickly learn and maintain a general knowledge of City and department policies and procedures;
- G eneral knowledge in the use of standard accounting software;
- Ability to operate standard office machines, including data entry equipment;
- Ability to perform detailed record work;
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions;
- Ability to make arithmetic computations; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED, and moderate experience in customer service, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements:
- This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force;
- Work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing,
- Using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting;
- Work requires close vision and distance vision;
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly;

- Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data,
- Operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities;
- Work has no exposure to environmental conditions;
- Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office with computer printers, light traffic).
