Entry-Level Composite Fabrication Technician
Location: Torrance, California
Industry: Aerospace / Advanced Composites
About the Opportunity
Looking for talented, motivated technicians to join our crew at Scorpius Space Launch Company (SSLC). Our pressure vessels have flown to the Moon — and we build them right here in Torrance, California.
We are open to entry-level and less-experienced candidates. Previous aerospace experience is not required. Mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, the ability to work with your hands, and enthusiasm for learning advanced composite fabrication can go a long way.
If you enjoy building things, working with tools, solving hands-on problems, working in a team doing hard work, and seeing the finished product of that work, we want to hear from you.
Position: Composite Fabrication Technician
As a Composite Fabrication Technician, you will work alongside experienced technicians to manufacture advanced carbon-fiber composite structures and pressure vessels for aerospace applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Composite Material Preparation & Layup — Cut, prepare, lay up, shape, and handle carbon-fiber and other composite materials according to work instructions and drawings.
- Resin & Adhesive Work — Measure, mix, and apply resins, adhesives, and other materials used in composite manufacturing.
- Tooling & Mold Preparation — Clean, prepare, assemble, and maintain molds, fixtures, and manufacturing tooling.
- Vacuum Bagging & Curing — Assist with vacuum bagging, curing, and other composite processing operations.
- Bonding & Assembly — Perform bonding, fitting, and assembly of composite components.
- Trimming & Finishing — Use hand and power tools to trim, sand, drill, machine, and finish composite parts.
- Production Support — Assist experienced technicians with filament winding and other specialized manufacturing processes.
- Inspection & Quality — Perform basic dimensional and visual inspections and identify workmanship issues.
- Documentation — Accurately complete travelers, work instructions, material records, and other production documentation.
- Shop Operations — Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and properly care for tools and equipment.
Skills & Qualifications
We're interested in candidates who have:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and enjoy hands-on work.
- Good attention to detail and the ability to follow written instructions.
- Ability to learn new manufacturing processes and techniques.
- Comfort using common hand and power tools.
- Ability to measure accurately using basic measuring tools.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a small manufacturing team.
- A willingness to ask questions, learn from experienced technicians, and take pride in workmanship.
- Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
Experience That Can Be a Good Fit
Previous aerospace or composite fabrication experience is helpful but not required.
Relevant experience may include:
- Carbon-fiber or fiberglass fabrication
- Boat building or repair
- Surfboard fabrication
- Automotive body or composite work
- Aircraft maintenance or fabrication
- Machining or mechanical assembly
- Woodworking or cabinet making
- Manufacturing or production work
- Construction or skilled trades
- Hobby experience building, repairing, or fabricating mechanical components
We care about aptitude and craftsmanship, not just job titles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with carbon fiber, fiberglass, epoxy resins, adhesives, or similar materials.
- Familiarity with vacuum bagging or composite curing processes.
- Ability to read basic engineering drawings and manufacturing instructions.
- Experience with drills, grinders, sanders, saws, routers, or other fabrication tools.
- Previous experience in an aerospace or quality-controlled manufacturing environment.
What We're Looking For
The right candidate is someone who is curious, dependable, mechanically inclined, and proud of the things they build.
You don't need to arrive knowing everything about aerospace composites. We can teach processes and techniques. We're looking for people who have the aptitude to learn them, take quality seriously, and want to become skilled composite technicians.
At SSLC, the hardware you help build isn't theoretical. Our pressure vessels are already on the Moon. The next one's we build might have your fingerprints on them.
Come help us build what flies next.
