What We’re Looking For
Ernst Instruments seeks a versatile individual who can proficiently handle a wide range of hands-on production and maintenance tasks. Ideal candidates will possess a strong mechanical aptitude, technical skills for machine operation and the ability to understand engineered products. Furthermore, the role requires a reliable, safety-conscious employee who is comfortable using computer systems for tracking and labeling, and capable of handling various general maintenance and support duties across the facility.
PRODUCT FABRICATING & ORDER PICKING
- Pick and produce standard products and parts for orders.
- Fabricate and assemble products of several different product lines.
- Develop technical knowledge of the product line to proficiently fabricate products.
- Learn and understand the company system to process and prioritize orders.
MACHINE OPERATIONS
- Become skilled in operating most machines in our warehouse.
- Master the use of glass and rod-cutting machines for the fabrication of standard products.
- Intermittently, machine product components of several product lines.
- Use and understand vernier calipers and other measuring tools.
PACKAGING & SHIPPING
- Assist with Packing and Shipping as needed.
- Proficient in using shipping/labeling systems for domestic and export shipments.
- Follow standardized methods for properly packing items.
- Build prefabricated cardboard boxes and crates.
- Pack up Truck shipments using crates, pallets, or prefabricated crates.
- Calculate weights and shipping costs for prepaid or pre-quoted customer shipments.
- Occasionally lift products/packages weighing ~50 lbs.
MACHINE AND GENERAL MAINTENANCE
- Assist with maintaining machinery on a regular periodic basis and follow monthly maintenance schedules.
- General warehouse maintenance, including (but not limited to) sweeping floors, emptying warehouse garbage, and discarding pallets.
INVENTORY CONTROL
- Assist with maintaining the organization of inventory and supplies in shop.
- Perform inventory control counts.
QUALITY CONTROL / SAFETY
- Learn and understand warehouse quality control procedures and product traceability procedures.
- Adhere to a high standard of producing a quality product and service to our customers.
- Comply with all safety requirements presented by the company.
COMPUTER
- Have reasonably good keyboarding skills to access data into our computer systems.
- Become proficient using labeling programs, labeling printers, and the pin stamper.
- Proficiently navigate inventory software.
- Become proficient with our Shipping System.
OTHER GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Handling and working with products from John C. Ernst LLC, and GPI Meters
- Training for other positions as needed in a backup capacity.
- Print open order reports daily and track orders at the end of the day.
- Meet misc. maintenance needs around the entire office and warehouse when arise.
- Operate walk-behind forklifts.
- Occasionally interact with customers who come for product, pick-ups or repairs.
- Perform miscellaneous duties deemed necessary by management.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum one year of relevant work experience
- Ability to read, write, and follow verbal instructions in Standard English is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills with listening, consultative and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle complex projects and tasks independently within established standards.
- Ability to handle multiple responsibilities at a time and be self-motivated and proactive.
- Function and thrive in a team environment with an appreciation of aggressive goals.
Physical and Technical Environment
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend and stoop in a normal office and manufacturing environment.
- Ability to routinely travel throughout multi-floor office and shop area walking, climbing stairs, utilizing elevator.
- Exposure to varying environments, changing deadlines, strict time constraints.
- Frequent lifting, occasionally up to 100 lbs.
- This position may require occasional overtime depending on business needs. Candidates should be prepared to work additional hours when necessary.
COMPENSATION & REVIEWS
- Hourly Position. Paid bi-weekly. $18+ based on experience
- Reviewed annually for merit raise.
HOURS
- Monday through Friday: 8:30 AM - 5:15 PM.
- Lunch: 45 minutes, approximately between 11:30 AM and 1:00 pm
