Since 1928, Shell Lumber & Hardware has been South Florida's trusted destination for building materials, hardware, and home improvement products. We are seeking an experienced Hardware Specialist who is passionate about helping customers find the right solutions for their projects.
The ideal candidate has extensive hardware knowledge, enjoys working with both professional contractors and DIY customers, and takes pride in delivering exceptional customer service. You will be responsible for assisting customers, maintaining department inventory and merchandising, and supporting the overall success of the hardware department.
Responsibilities
- Provide outstanding customer service to contractors, builders, maintenance professionals, and DIY customers.
- Assist customers in selecting the appropriate hardware, tools, fasteners, plumbing, electrical, and building products for their projects.
- Offer technical product knowledge and practical solutions for residential and commercial applications.
- Maintain department merchandising, inventory, pricing, and stock levels.
- Process special orders and coordinate with vendors when necessary.
- Stay current on new hardware products, industry trends, and product applications.
- Support inside sales and work closely with other departments to ensure a seamless customer experience.
- Keep the department clean, organized, and fully stocked.
- Assist store management with inventory counts, merchandising initiatives, and daily operations.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in hardware sales, retail hardware, construction supply, or the building materials industry.
- Strong working knowledge of hardware products, hand and power tools, fasteners, plumbing, electrical, paint, lawn & garden, and general home improvement products.
- Experience assisting professional contractors is highly preferred.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and customer service abilities.
- Ability to read product specifications and recommend appropriate materials.
- Organized, dependable, and able to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on your feet throughout the day.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Experience with inventory management or retail point-of-sale systems.
- Knowledge of South Florida residential and commercial construction products and practices.
