Duties
- Lead surf lessons tailored to various skill levels, from beginners to advanced surfers
- Ensure all participants follow safety protocols and surf within designated areas
- Conduct pre-lesson safety briefings, including weather and water condition assessments
- Demonstrate proper surfing techniques, including paddling, balance, and wave riding
- Monitor students’ progress, providing constructive feedback and encouragement
- Maintain equipment safety checks and ensure all gear is in excellent condition
- Communicate effectively with clients about lesson plans, safety procedures, and progress updates
Skills
- Proven lifeguard experience with current CPR and First Aid certifications (including AED operation)
- Strong swimming skills with comfort in open water environments
- Experience working with children and understanding behavior management strategies
- Knowledge of sports-specific training instruction, including coaching techniques for surfing or related water sports
- Background in martial arts or climbing enhances balance, discipline, and focus
- Experience coaching or teaching physical education across various sports such as soccer, basketball, cheerleading or climbing
- Excellent communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration
- Ability to lead with enthusiasm while maintaining a safe environment for all participants
- Previous health club or gym experience is a plus but not required
- Demonstrated ability to work with students of diverse ages and skill levels in a fun yet disciplined manner
