Job Summary
BWC’s Farmers Market Manager is a dynamic and community-focused individual responsible for overseeing the operation of the Brownsville Farmers Market. This role involves vendor relations, market logistics, event coordination, and community engagement to ensure a vibrant and sustainable market environment. The Farmers Market Manager also oversees additional market initiatives, ensuring alignment with BWC’s mission and goals.
Responsibilities
- Market Operations: Manages and coordinates all aspects of the Farmers Market, ensuring smooth execution of weekly market days.
- Vendor Management: Approves vendor applications, manages communications, assigns market locations, and ensures compliance with regulations and permits.
- Market Logistics: Leads setup and teardown of market operations, maintains a well-organized vendor layout, and ensures compliance with health and safety standards.
- Sales and Reporting: Tracks and analyzes vendor sales and market performance data, providing reports to upper management.
- Community Engagement: Builds relationships with vendors, community members, and local businesses to foster market growth.
- Event Coordination: Plans and oversees special events, seasonal programming, and collaborations with local partners to enhance the market experience.
- Volunteer and Staff Supervision: Recruits, trains, and oversees volunteers and facilitators to support market operations.
- Collaboration with The Cannery Public Market: Works closely with the Manager at The Cannery Public Market to align market operations with broader community and retail initiatives.
- Promotion and Implementation of Assistance Programs: Educates vendors and market visitors about WIC, SNAP, and Double Up Food Bucks initiatives, ensuring accessibility and engagement with these programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience managing farmers markets, retail spaces, or similar community-based food initiatives.
- Strong organizational and customer service skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic knowledge of local food systems, vendor management, and event logistics.
- Ability to work independently in an outdoor setting during various weather conditions.
- Flexible work schedule, including weekends and evenings.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required.
PREFER QUALIFICATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, or a related field with two years of experience in market management, sales, or event coordination.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently.
- Comfortable working outdoors and engaging with the public in a hands-on market environment.
