SUMMARY:
The Clinical Nurse Leader serves as the advanced clinical practice leader for the Nursing division and is responsible for promoting excellence in patient care through clinical leadership, professional development, competency assessment, and evidence-based practice. The Clinical Nurse Leader reports directly to CNO while providing direct oversight, mentoring, and clinical guidance to graduate nurses, newly hired nursing staff, and nursing personnel requiring additional clinical support to ensure safe, competent, and high-quality patient care.
This position collaborates with quality, patient safety, leadership, physicians, and nursing staff to strengthen clinical practice, improve patient outcomes, enhance staff competency, and support quality improvement initiatives. The Clinical Nurse Leader functions as an expert clinical resource, provides consultation for complex patient care situations, evaluates clinical performance, assists with regulatory readiness, and maintains an active clinical presence within the department while practicing within the scope of advanced practice nursing.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Promotes evidence-based nursing practice and professional standards.
· Supports consistent application of nursing policies, procedures, and standards of care.
· Evaluates nursing practice and identify opportunities for improvement.
· Collaborates with nurse leaders and frontline staff to address nursing practice concerns.
· Supports professional accountability and autonomy among nurses.
· Facilitates the use of evidence and current nursing literature in clinical practice.
· Supports evidence-based practice projects and nursing research.
· Helps translate research findings into clinical practice.
· Partners with educators and clinical leaders on practice changes.
· Conducts concurrent audits to ensure nursing documentation is accurate, timely, and complete.
· Assists with audits and readiness activities related to documentation nursing standards.
· Collaborates with quality, regulatory and compliance teams as needed.
· Monitors nursing-sensitive quality indicators and performance improvement outcomes to include the use of the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators.
· In collaboration with Quality and Patient Safety, participates and supports nursing quality-improvement and patient-safety initiatives.
· In compliance with the Quality Patient Safety Council, identifies trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement in nursing practice.
· Assists with development and implementation of nursing corrective action plans.
· Promotes a culture of safety, just culture, and continuous improvement.
· Coordinates initiatives that promote nursing excellence and professional recognition.
· Supports preparation for nursing excellence designations and accreditation activities, when applicable.
· Collects and organizes evidence demonstrating excellence in nursing practice.
· Promote recognition of nurses and nursing accomplishments.
· In compliance with the Quality Patient Safety Council, lead or coordinate nursing practice improvement projects.
· In cooperation with Quality, develop timelines, goals, metrics, and evaluation plans.
· Coordinates interdisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
· Reports progress and outcomes to nursing leadership.
· Identifies professional practice education needs.
· Collaborates with Learning and Development on competency and development initiatives.
· Promotes professional certifications, continuing education, and career advancement.
· Supports programs that strengthen clinical expertise and professional growth.
· Coordinates or support shared governance and professional practice councils (i.e. Nursing Quality and Safety Review Committee and Clinical Nurse Practice).
· Facilitates meetings, agendas, documentation, and follow-up.
· Encourages frontline nurse participation in organizational decision-making.
EDUCATION:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Georgia and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) are required, with a minimum of 5 years bedside nursing experience.
- A master’s degree in nursing or Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) is preferred.
