About Oath East Portland Surgical Center
Oath East Portland Surgical Center is a physician-partnered, multi-site ambulatory surgery center organization serving the Portland metro area. Our Sterile Processing team is a valued part of our clinical infrastructure — the work done in SPD is foundational to every safe, successful surgical case we perform, and we staff and support this department accordingly.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a skilled, certified Sterile Processing Technician to manage the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment at our East Portland ASC. This is a high-responsibility role in a clean, organized, professionally managed department where attention to detail, IFU compliance, and proactive communication with the OR team are the standard — not the exception.
What You Will Do
- Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment in strict accordance with manufacturer instructions for use (IFU) and established department protocols
- Operate and maintain sterilization equipment including steam autoclaves and low-temperature sterilizers (hydrogen peroxide plasma or equivalent)
- Perform and document biological, chemical, and mechanical quality assurance monitoring for all sterilization loads
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and integrity; flag and remove any damaged or non-conforming instruments from service
- Assemble instrument trays and case carts according to count sheets and surgeon preference cards with accuracy and efficiency
- Ensure proper storage, rotation, and distribution of sterile supplies and instrumentation
- Maintain accurate and complete sterilization records in compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements
- Communicate proactively with the OR team regarding instrument availability, special processing needs, loaner instruments, and any processing concerns that may affect case readiness
- Participate in instrument inventory management, tray standardization initiatives, and departmental quality improvement activities
What You Bring
- Certification through CBSPD or IAHCSMM/HSPA (CRCST) — required or actively in progress; certified candidates strongly preferred
- Minimum 1 year of sterile processing experience in a surgical or healthcare setting — required
- ASC or OR-adjacent SPD experience preferred
- Solid working knowledge of sterilization modalities, IFU compliance, and biological monitoring requirements
- Familiarity with loaner instrument management and orthopedic or spine instrument sets a plus
- BLS preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to work accurately under time pressure
- Team-oriented with clear, proactive communication habits and a commitment to case readiness
