Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated College Placement Advisor to join the College and School Counseling team at Notre Dame High School. Reporting to the Director of College and School Counseling, the Advisor will support students through the college preparation process by delivering the day-to-day advising, application support, and family communication that helps students make informed decisions about their future. This individual will work collaboratively with the Director, students, parents, and faculty to help each student build a balanced college list and stay on track with applications, testing, recommendations, and the transition to college.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Individualized Advising
- Provide one-on-one advising sessions to students, discussing academic strengths, interests, and career aspirations to support each student's personal plan of action.
- Help students identify and refine a balanced list of colleges that align with their goals, as guided by the framework set by the Director.
2. College Application Support
- Support students and families through the college application process, including essay feedback, interview preparation, and understanding application requirements.
- Assist with workshops and resources on college applications, personal statements, and other essential materials, as directed by the Director.
3. Scholarship and Financial Aid Support
- Share information with students and families on scholarship opportunities, financial aid options, and the FAFSA process.
- Help maintain up-to-date scholarship and financial aid resources for students and families.
4. College Connections
- Assist in coordinating visits from admissions representatives, information sessions, and panel discussions with colleges and universities.
- Help maintain accurate records of college representative visits and communications.
5. Workshops and Seminars
- Assist in facilitating group workshops on topics such as college selection, interview skills, resume building, and time management.
- Support parent seminars on the college admissions process and how families can support their students.
6. Data Management and Reporting
- Track assigned student progress and maintain accurate records of student interactions, college applications, and outcomes.
- Provide the Director of College and School Counseling with regular updates on student college placement progress.
7. Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with the Director, teachers, and staff to support a comprehensive college preparation program.
- Communicate regularly with students and parents to keep them informed about important deadlines, events, and opportunities.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in School Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or a related field preferred.
- School counseling certification a plus, but not required.
Experience Requirements:
- A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in college counseling, college admissions, or a related field; experience in a high school setting is a plus.
- Familiarity with the college admissions process, including application procedures, essay writing, scholarship opportunities, interview readiness, and financial aid processes.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Comfort supporting or co-facilitating workshops and seminars related to college preparation.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a caseload of students and deadlines accurately and reliably.
- Interest in the mission and educational goals of Notre Dame High School, and a willingness to support the school's college counseling program under the direction of the Director of College and School Counseling.
