TECHNICAL DIRECTOR — DIMON LEGACY THEATRE

We are seeking an experienced Technical Director to lead technical operations for theatrical productions, concerts, and special events. This position oversees technical planning and execution from pre-production through strike while maintaining a safe, professional, and collaborative environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES TO INCLUDE:
- Lead the technical execution of productions and live events, including load-in, rehearsals, performances, strike, and theatre restoration.
- Collaborate with directors, designers, stage managers, producers, and production teams to bring each production’s artistic vision to life safely, on schedule, and within budget.
- Oversee lighting, audio, video, projection, rigging, scenic elements, backstage systems, and special effects.
- Evaluate the feasibility of scenic and technical designs and develop effective solutions.
- Schedule, supervise, train, and mentor technicians, operators, stagehands, and volunteers.
- Maintain theatre equipment, inventories, technical documentation, and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate equipment installation, programming, inspections, repairs, and servicing.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe backstage, booth, stage, and technical workspaces.
- Create and enforce technical procedures, safety standards, emergency protocols, and backstage expectations.
- Complete technician payroll information and production closeout documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS TO INCLUDE:
- At least five years of professional technical theatre or live-event production experience.
- Broad knowledge of theatrical lighting, audio, video, projection, scenic construction, rigging, stage machinery, and production processes.
- Experience reading scenic, lighting, architectural, and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with ETC EOS, QLab, Dante, media servers, and current entertainment technologies.
- Strong leadership, organization, communication, project-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience supervising employees and volunteers.
- A degree in Technical Theatre, Theatre Production, Entertainment Technology, or a related field is preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Vectorworks, or SketchUp is preferred.
- First Aid/CPR certification and OSHA or equivalent industry safety training are preferred.
SCHEDULE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO INCLUDE:
This full-time position requires availability for evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended production hours. Applicants must be able to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; climb ladders and stairs; work safely at heights; operate telescoping lifts; and stand, walk, bend, and move throughout extended rehearsals and performances.

Pay Range: $40,000 - $45,000
