The Dosimetrist plays a key part in maintaining safe, effective, and patient‑centered radiation therapy services.
Technology & Clinical Environment
- Treatment Planning Systems: Eclipse, RayStation
- Additional Software: MIM
- Oncology Information Systems / EMR: Aria preferred
- Clinical Setting: Proton therapy environment with exposure to radiation (ALARA), infectious diseases, blood/body fluids, electrical equipment, and chemicals
- Work Environment: Close‑proximity clinical workspace with limited natural light; adherence to universal precautions and safety protocols required
Responsibilities
- Produce accurate proton therapy treatment plans with complete setup instructions
- Compute dose distributions and generate isodose curves
- Provide guidance on complex patient setups, localization, immobilization, and custom device fabrication
- Design and implement quality assurance and planning procedures
- Collaborate with physicians, physicists, and therapists to develop and maintain clinical protocols
- Support physicists in dosimetry calibration, QA, clinical projects, and new procedure development
- Participate in NYPC training programs and support visiting students, residents, and trainees
- Maintain competency in caring for patients across all age groups
- Identify and report process improvement opportunities to the Director of Medical Physics
- Communicate resource needs for budgeting purposes
- Comply with all NYPC policies, including HIPAA privacy regulations
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in physics or related field or graduation from a JRCERT‑accredited Medical Dosimetry Program
- Certification by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) or board‑eligible
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed
- Strong time‑management and workflow prioritization skills
- Experience with OIS/EMR and treatment planning systems (Eclipse, RayStation, MIM); Aria experience preferred
- Proton treatment planning experience preferred; photon experience desirable but not required for new JRCERT graduates
