We are looking for a caring, motivated, and detail-oriented Patient Care Coordinator & Dry Eye Specialist to become an integral part of our growing team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships with patients, educating others, and delivering an exceptional patient experience from the first phone call through long-term follow-up.
Position Summary
The Patient Care Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for our patients throughout their dry eye journey. This role combines patient education, clinical support, scheduling coordination, treatment assistance, and concierge-level customer service to ensure every patient feels heard, supported, and cared for.
No prior dry eye experience is required—we are happy to train the right individual who is passionate about helping others.
ResponsibilitiesPatient Experience
- Welcome patients with warmth, professionalism, and offer refreshments.
- Coordinate the patient journey from consultation through ongoing treatment.
- Build meaningful relationships with patients and provide compassionate support.
- Answer patient questions regarding dry eye disease and treatment plans.
- Conduct follow-up phone calls to monitor patient progress.
- Build relationships with referring doctors and send summary reports for patient updates.
- Help patients understand recommended treatment options and home care.
Clinical Support
- Assist the doctor during prior to dry eye evaluations such as retrieving consent forms and uploading them into patient charts.
- Ensure treatment rooms and equipment are prepared the day before a clinic day.
- Assist with patient education on dry eye diagnostic testing and procedures, including:
- Diagnostic Testing:
- Schirmer’s Test
- InflammaDry MMP9 Test
- Meibography
- Lissamine and Fluorescein Evaluation
- Tear Break Up Time
- Corneal Sensitivity Testing
- Eyelid Evaluation for Demodex build up and blink rate and function
- Treatment Procedures:
- Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
- Meibomian gland expression with forceps
- Red light therapy
- Punctal plug procedures - LacriFill
- Eyelid Cleaning - Blephex and Rinsada
- Scleral lens education
- Amniotic Membrane
- Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Eye drops
- Assist patients after Dry Eye evaluations and treatment with post-care, including:
- Providing a summary of treatment recommendations by the doctor
- Be familiar with products to dispense after their visit which include:
- Lubricating eye drops
- Heated Eye Compress
- Safe non-toxic cosmetic products
- Eyelid Hygiene products
- Dry Eye Supplements
- Dry Eye Glasses
- Have general knowledge of prescription eye drops commonly used for Dry Eyes:
- Cyclosporines: Restasis, Cequa, Vevye
- Neuromodulators: Tyrvya, Tryptyr
- Anti-Inflammatories: Xiidra, Steroids, PRP
- Lubricants: Miebo, Ivizia
Patient Education
- Educate patients on:
- Dry eye disease
- Meibomian gland dysfunction
- Aqueous Deficiency
- Ocular Inflammation + Rosacea
- Home treatment recommendations
- Nutrition and lifestyle modifications
- Cosmetic hygiene
- Environmental changes
Practice Growth
- Participate in community outreach and educational events.
- Help organize patient workshops and seminars.
- Assist with patient testimonials (with consent).
- Contribute ideas to improve patient experience and clinic operations.
Qualifications
Preferred:
- Experience in optometry, ophthalmology, healthcare, or medical assisting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Comfortable using electronic health records (EHR).
- Passion for patient education and customer service.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
