Job Summary: The Tire Technician is responsible for inspecting, repairing, installing, and maintaining tires on commercial and/or passenger vehicles in a safe and efficient manner. This position supports overall fleet reliability and customer satisfaction by ensuring proper tire performance, compliance with safety standards, and timely service delivery. The Tire Technician works closely with service advisors, drivers, and maintenance personnel to diagnose tire issues, perform preventative maintenance, and document service activities accurately.
Essential Job Functions:
Inspects tire casing to identify holes, tears, or other defects
Identify the appropriate tire size and ply based on vehicle specifications
Safely operate tire service equipment, jacks, torque tools, and air systems
Inflate tires to the proper air pressure according to product information and industry standards
Perform tire mounting, dismounting, balancing, and repairs on commercial truck tires
Identifies punctures in tubeless tires by visually inspecting the tire or immersing it in a water bath and locating bubbles
Inspect tires and wheels on Class 8 tractors and trailers for wear, damage, and proper inflation
Uses lug wrenches and other hand or power tools to unbolt and remove wheels from vehicles
Rotate tires and ensure proper alignment in coordination with maintenance team
Identifies counterweights required to balance wheels with the use of balancing machines; attach counterweights onto rims or insert balancing beads
Maintain accurate service records and report tire conditions to supervisors
Monitor tread depth and maintain tire inventory
Keep work area clean and organized
Identities tread depth to ensure that tire meets DOT requirements
Other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid Driver’s license in state of residency with acceptable driving record
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and submit to the company random drug and alcohol program
Willingness to learn and work as part of a team
Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining the highest quality and work standards
Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in varying environmental conditions
Ability to work any schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
Ability to read and understand technical service manuals
Preferred Qualifications:
Entry level mechanical knowledge and experience

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required for extended periods to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, lift, crouch or crawl. Flexibility including the ability to maneuver body into unusual positions to get at hard-to reach parts and frequent stretching, bending, reaching, and twisting. Ability to lift up objects that are 50 lbs over head and carry and move objects 75 lbs.
Hand and finger dexterity: Frequently have to grasp heavy parts and maneuver them into place. Ability to support the part while tightening screws or fit another part into place. Some parts and equipment require very precise adjustments, or the part may go into an area that is too small for the hand, so technicians need good coordination between the thumb and forefinger.
Steady hands: The job requires holding one or both arms steady while working on a vehicle, sometimes for several minutes. Technicians need the strength to keep their hands stead even if their arms are taxed.
Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision especially when working on electrical systems, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus and make out small details. Hearing abilities to differentiate between sounds or locate the source of an unusual sound.
Communication: Ability to speak with internal customers to determine the nature of the problem or to explain the work performed. Ability to discuss work with other technicians or supervisors. Ability to make self understood as well as be able to understand what others are saying.
Work Environment: The duties of this job are performed in both a shop and office environment, a light industrial environment, and outdoors, thereby experiencing some minor to moderate level of noise due to equipment. Exposure to various climate conditions, fumes, dust, odors, oil/grease, and gasses. A technician must be focused on safety and works with a variety of potentially harmful substances, and the equipment can pose dangers if not handled properly. Must be safety conscious and willing to follow all safety rules at all times to protect themselves, their coworkers, and their customers.
