About Herndon Animal Medical Center
At Herndon Animal Medical Center, we believe great care starts with really knowing the pets and families we serve. Every visit is personal, not just a number on the schedule. Great medicine here starts with a great team: our doctors, technicians, assistants, and client service crew work together, and we've built a culture around communication, respect, and speaking up for the patient in front of you. If you bring a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and genuine care for people and animals, you'll fit right in.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
As an LVT here, you're not just following orders, you're a clinical partner our doctors trust and rely on. This is a role with real responsibility, real variety, and real room to use everything you learned to get licensed. On any given day, you might:
- Work directly alongside our doctors through appointments, exams, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures. Your clinical judgment matters here, not just your hands.
- Place IV catheters, draw blood, give injections, and administer medications with confidence and a gentle touch.
- Run point on anesthesia: prepping patients, monitoring vitals through surgery, and guiding them safely through recovery.
- Assist with surgical prep and dental procedures, keeping things sterile, efficient, and safe.
- Take radiographs and dental x-rays and help interpret diagnostic imaging alongside the doctor.
- Run in-house labs and prep samples headed to outside reference labs. Accuracy here directly shapes a patient's treatment plan.
- Keep a close eye on hospitalized patients and flag any status changes to the doctor before they become bigger problems.
- Talk directly with clients about their pet's care, home instructions, and follow-up.
- Keep medical records precise and support smooth pharmacy workflows, because good documentation is good medicine.
- Keep exam rooms, treatment areas, and equipment clean, stocked, and ready to go at a moment's notice.
- Mentor veterinary assistants and newer teammates, helping build the same skills and confidence someone helped you build.
