Job Summary

This is a part-time position with variable hours based on workload and customer needs. NDGI's Grain Sampler position entails going out to elevators within a 75 mile radius of Wickliffe, KY. The sampler will perform stowage examinations on barges, which involve walking to and inspecting the vessel. After completing the examination, the Sampler will return to the loadout room, where they may spend several hours seated while collecting and documenting samples as the barge is loaded. Additional duties include recording barges IDs and seal numbers on work records, and maintaining accurate results. The Sampler will use their own vehicle to drive directly from their home to the elevator location, with paid drive time and mileage reimbursement. Hours will vary from week to week, and overtime opportunities may be available depending on workload.
Starting wage is $16.00 per hour, however, hours worked on Saturday are paid at time and a half ($24.00/hr), and hours worked on Sunday are paid at double time ($32.00/hr). Weekday hours worked outside of our normal 7am to 3pm are also paid at time and a half ($24.00/hr).
Duties
- Collect representative grain samples from barges following federal regulations.
- Follow established protocols to ensure sample integrity.
- Document sampling procedures accurately and maintain detailed inspection reports with legible handwriting in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Perform stowage examinations on barges prior to loading grain.
- Follow all safety policies.
Qualifications
- Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, and move around as needed throughout the shift in various climates in both outdoor and indoor conditions
- Strong attention to detail to ensure precise inspection reporting
- Able to work 12+ hour shifts
- Feel comfortable working on top of vessels on the water
- Work variable hours and shifts
- Be able to physically handle working in grain dust environments
- No experience required
