Job Roles & Duties
- Mechanical Systems & Repair: Primary responsibility for the diagnostic evaluation, repair, and overhaul of marine diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, drives, and generators.
- Technical Diagnostics: Execution of systematic troubleshooting to identify and resolve complex mechanical and electrical failures. This includes engine test runs and the assembly or disassembly of specialized components as required.
- Preventative Maintenance: Performance of routine service intervals, including oil and filter changes, impeller replacement, zinc renewal, and the inspection/adjustment of propellers, shafts, and stuffing boxes.
- Systems Integration: Oversight of onboard sanitation systems and AC/DC electrical installations. Work must adhere to established yard procedures and ABYC standards to ensure vessel safety and reliability.
- Administrative Precision: Maintenance of detailed service records, including accurate tracking of labor hours, parts utilized, and comprehensive notes on work performed to ensure clear communication with management.
- Interdepartmental Coordination: Collaboration with the yard and parts departments to streamline work orders and meet project timelines. The technician must be capable of working independently while maintaining a team-oriented focus.
About You
- Technical Experience: 8+ years’ experience. Documented expertise in marine propulsion systems and electrical architecture. A strong functional understanding of diesel cycles, gasoline engine mechanics, and marine-specific plumbing is required.
- Operational Discipline: A professional approach defined by a desire for continuous improvement and a willingness to adopt new technical skills through professional development.
- Professional Reliability: A track record of dependability and organizational skills. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to follow written work orders precisely and maintain a clean, efficient workspace. Excellent communication skills a must.
- Credentials: Industry-standard engine or ABYC certifications are highly preferred. The successful candidate must possess the physical capability to perform work in the confined and varied environments typical of marine vessels.

- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (8-hour shifts). Note: Seasonal demand may require additional hours such as Saturday mornings.
