JOB SUMMARY
The Seasonal Trash and Recycling Collector performs work in a variety of routine unskilled and semi-skilled duties involving the proper and safe collection of trash and recycling for the Town of Hampton.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
The Seasonal Trash and Recycling Collector works under the supervision of a Foreman or other higher-graded employee who assigns work and gives instruction.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
A Seasonal Trash and Recycling Collector must possess knowledge of the safety practices and procedures applicable to work; ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to perform duties while maintaining good public relations with other employees and the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
A candidate for this position should have a High School diploma or GED, OR equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be 18+ years old.

The employee spends much of the day standing on and moving around with the Collection vehicles. Performs physical labor including reaching, bending, twisting, kneeling and/or crouching. Frequently lifts and/or moves objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Carts must be moved from curbside to the tippers on the Collection Vehicles which will them be emptied into the trucks. Must be able to climb a ladder and enter and exit from vehicles. Manually operates all department vehicles, tools, and equipment. Most work is performed in and around the Collection vehicle and at the Transfer Station with exposure to outside weather and varying weather conditions including exposure to moving vehicles, mechanical and electrical hazards, fumes, odors, airborne particles, dirt, dust, grease, garbage, refuse, chemicals and other disagreeable materials.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

1. Collects garbage and/or recyclables from containers in residential and commercial neighborhoods; empties containers into the refuse truck; returns container;
2. Picks up trash, broken tree limbs, and other debris from street curbs, grounds and other town locations and places in truck;
3. Cleans rubbish/recycling vehicles and lubricates packer body as required;
4. Assists with Transfer Station Operations as skilled and requested;
5. Performs other related duties as required which may include work in other sections from time to time.
