Online Live Sales Show Host
We are looking for an outgoing, dependable, and sales driven Live Show Host to join our team hosting live fossil and mineral sales on Whatnot.
Our shows feature fossils, minerals, agates, and other collectible specimens, many of which are cut live during the show using lapidary equipment.
This is primarily a voice and hands position. The cameras are generally focused on the specimens and cutting process rather than the host's face. You'll spend most of the show talking with customers, presenting material, handling specimens, running auctions, and cutting pieces live. You may occasionally appear on camera, but this is not a traditional face on camera livestreaming job.
You do not need to come in as a fossil or mineral expert. We can teach you the material and the equipment. We're looking for someone who can talk naturally, connect with customers, learn quickly, and develop into a strong live salesperson.
What a Typical Evening Looks Like
6:00 PM – Show Prep
Hosts arrive approximately 30 minutes before the show to get everything ready. This includes:
- Turning on and setting up cameras and other streaming equipment
- Preparing the lapidary saws and filling them with water
- Pulling specimens and other products from the shelves
- Setting up the Whatnot show and organizing the night's material
6:30 PM–11:00 PM – Live Show
Once we're live, the host is responsible for keeping the show moving. You'll:
- Present and sell specimens through live auctions
- Handle and show products under the cameras
- Interact with customers through live chat
- Explain products and answer questions
- Build excitement around upcoming pieces
- Operate lapidary saws to cut specimens live
- Keep track of products and maintain an organized workspace
- Work with other team members throughout the show
After the Show – Cleanup
The evening ends with basic cleanup, including cleaning and organizing the work area, equipment, saws, and remaining product.
We Are Also Hiring a Late Night Host
In addition to our normal evening hosts, we are specifically looking for someone interested in late night hours.
Our regular evening host typically runs the show until approximately 11:00 PM. The late night host would take over the stream and continue hosting from roughly:
11:00 PM–3:00 AM
This can be a great fit for someone who naturally prefers working late. You would be taking over an already running show rather than starting from scratch, but would be expected to independently maintain the energy of the show, sell product, interact with customers, and operate the lapidary equipment.
Applicants interested in these late night hours should specifically mention their availability when applying.
Next Day Shipping & Packing
The job also includes several hours of packing and shipping following your shows.
Unlike the live shows, packing hours are flexible. Shipping can generally be completed anytime between:
8:00 AM and 4:00 PM the following day
You can choose when within that window you come in to complete your packing responsibilities.
This part of the job includes organizing sold items, safely packing specimens, preparing orders, and getting the previous night's sales ready for shipment.
What We're Looking For
- Strong and engaging speaking voice
- Comfortable talking continuously for several hours
- Friendly and able to interact naturally with customers
- Sales minded without sounding like a stereotypical salesperson
- Comfortable working evening hours
- Reliable and punctual
- Comfortable handling valuable and sometimes fragile specimens
- Willing and able to learn to safely operate lapidary saws and equipment
- Able to learn fossils, minerals, agates, and other collectible material
- Comfortable learning Whatnot and basic livestreaming equipment
- Able to think on your feet when something unexpected happens during a live show
- Comfortable working independently once trained
- Sales, retail, hospitality, teaching, livestreaming, radio/podcasting, performing, or customer service experience is a plus
- Previous Whatnot experience is a plus, but not required
Host Advancement
We have a defined progression for our hosting team:
Associate Host → Show Host → Senior Host → Lead Host
New employees begin as Associate Hosts while learning our products, equipment, customers, and show format.
As hosts develop, they can progress into independently running full shows, hosting premium material, training new employees, troubleshooting studio equipment, and eventually taking on leadership responsibilities.
We're looking for people who want to become genuinely good at live sales. Product knowledge can be taught. Personality, reliability, communication skills, and the ability to connect with customers are what we're most interested in.
Pay: $20.00 - $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 8.0 – 32.0 per week
Benefits:
- Opportunities for advancement
- Paid training
Application Question(s):
