Job Title: Assistant Coach - Men's Volleyball
Department: Athletics
Employment Type: Exempt, 11 month (0.66 FTE), Part -Time Staff (not to exceed 29 hours per week)
Salary Range: $22,500 - $24,500
Job Summary:
The assistant coach is responsible for supporting all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division III men’s volleyball program. The assistant coach assists the head coach in student recruitment and retention; coaches student athletes and fosters their skill development; assists in coaching plans and implementation at practices and competitions; provides for students’ safety, health and wellbeing; complies with NCAA, and university policies; provides sound fiscal management; assists in equipment oversight, scheduling, travel planning, and summer camps; assists in off-season programs and athlete development; and assists in program communication and fundraising efforts with the Head Coach. The assistant coach will monitor/ support the student athlete academically when needed. The assistant coach will work with the head coach to build a shared vision, work collaboratively with the Office of Admissions, build and retain a diverse and talented team, foster good sportsmanship and a climate of respect, and provide an environment that supports students in achieving their athletic, academic and life goals
Duties/Responsibilities:
Assist in the daily operations of the program
Recruit prospective athletes that fit the mission and culture of the program and University
Organize and conduct on field coaching during practice and games
Develop scouting reports
Assist with administrative duties such as budgeting, scheduling, travel, equipment management, and inventory management
Assist with field and facility maintenance
Assist with program fundraising initiatives
Assist with program community service opportunities
Assist with program marketing and branding on social media
Assist with uniform maintenance and laundry
Assist in the development of camps for the recruitment of student-athletes
Provide mentoring and support for student-athletes regarding academics, player, and leadership development
Comply with all NCAA, conference, and university policies and regulations
Secondary duties as assigned by athletic department
Required Skills/Abilities:
Demonstrated leadership skills and effective communication and organizational skills
An appreciation for the philosophy of the NCAA Division III
Strong written and verbal communication skills and self-directed and motivated to advance Royals Men's Volleyball, the Athletic programs and the University
Strong social emotional skills and a student centered approach to teaching and learning
Must be able to work and relate well with the public, students, faculty and staff
Strong program management skills with the ability to recruit and retain qualified and talented student athletes
Cultural competency and diversity-oriented approach
Working knowledge of new technology initiatives (enter sport specific items)
Knowledge of and/or a capacity to learn current skill methodologies such as (enter sport specific skills)
Basic competency in Microsoft Office applications and Google Suite required and/or a willingness and ability to learn and use these digital work, scheduling, and filing systems required
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree required
Demonstrated effectiveness in playing and/or coaching volleyball is required
Prior college or 2-4 years of high school coaching experience preferred
College playing experience is preferred
Preference will be given to candidates with prior recruiting experience
Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience working with and developing hitters
Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the University’s insurance
First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred at time of application, and required as a condition of employment
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to work at a computer. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance, including prolonged periods of standing and moving during practices, games, meets, matches, and other competitions. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to watch and analyze video of opposing teams. The employee must occasionally travel to meetings and conferences off campus, which may include some overnight travel.
