The Opportunity
Reporting to the Store Manager (or his/her delegate), and supervised by the Bakery Operations Specialist, the Bakery Department Manager is responsible for delivering the department daily routine, controls its profit and loss, provides guidance, supervision, and training to Bakery staff members.
You Will:
- Supervise daily operations and staff performance in the Bakery Department to achieve sales and service goals.
- Ensure high product quality, food safety, freshness, and cleanliness while strictly following FIFO and hygiene standards.
- Provide coaching, on-the-job training, and guidance to team members; ensure fair task distribution and checklist execution.
- Manage product ordering, pricing accuracy, inventory control (including cooler/freezer), and coordinate with the Merchandising team.
- Set up attractive displays for special events and holidays; ensure all bakery items are properly labeled, packaged, and presented.
- Conduct quality checks and monitor equipment, tools, and safety compliance in the department.
- Maintain and update product pricing and UPC labels according to company guidelines.
- Deliver excellent customer service by greeting with enthusiasm, addressing concerns, and building rapport.
- Lead by example through hands-on involvement and promote a positive, inclusive team environment.
- Fulfill any additional responsibilities as assigned by superiors, contributing to the overall efficiency and success of the department.
You Should Have/Be:
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role (bakery experience preferred)
- Solid knowledge of bakery products, display, promotion, and packaging techniques
- Strong people management skills with the ability to lead, train, and motivate staff
- Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin is an asset
- Great interpersonal and customer service skills; a positive, proactive, and self-motivated attitude
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities; detail-oriented and results-driven
- Basic understanding of profit and loss control and the ability to interpret sales and market data
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Familiar with tools and equipment relevant to bakery operations; able to interpret product labels accurately
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices
- Demonstrates job commitment, reliability, and strong attendance; complies with company policies and standards
