POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a dependable and mechanically inclined Automatic Bag Line Operator to join our mulch and soil manufacturing operation. This position is responsible for operating, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting our automatic bagging and material handling equipment to ensure products are packaged safely, accurately, and efficiently.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, mechanically minded, safety-conscious, and able to identify and correct equipment issues before they result in significant downtime. This position plays an important role in maintaining consistent production and product quality throughout the bagging process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate and monitor the automatic bagging/filling line, conveyors, palletizer, and related production equipment.
- Set up and adjust equipment to maintain proper bag weights, fill levels, packaging, and production rates.
- Monitor equipment operation and product flow throughout the production process.
- Troubleshoot equipment problems and make adjustments or minor repairs as needed.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance, inspections, cleaning, and lubrication of equipment.
- Identify unusual noises, vibrations, leaks, jams, or other signs of equipment malfunction and take appropriate corrective action.
- Clear equipment jams and safely restart equipment following established procedures.
- Monitor finished product for proper bag appearance, weight, seal, labeling, and pallet configuration.
- Make necessary equipment adjustments to maintain product quality and minimize waste.
- Work closely with maintenance and production personnel to diagnose and resolve equipment problems.
- Communicate equipment issues, maintenance needs, production concerns, and other relevant information to supervisors.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift.
- Follow all company safety policies, operating procedures, and Lockout/Tagout requirements.
- Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Follow applicable OSHA and environmental requirements.
- Assist with general production duties and other tasks as assigned.
- Maintain regular and dependable attendance.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety is a fundamental responsibility of this position. The Automatic Bag Line Operator is expected to:
- Follow all company safety rules and procedures.
- Properly use machine guarding and never bypass or disable safety devices.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout procedures when required.
- Report unsafe conditions, equipment hazards, and workplace injuries promptly.
- Wear required PPE at all times.
- Maintain awareness of moving equipment, conveyors, palletizing equipment, and other potential hazards.
- Participate in safety training and follow all applicable OSHA requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Previous manufacturing, production, equipment operation, or industrial experience preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot equipment problems.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work safely around moving machinery and production equipment.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a production team.
- Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the position.
Preferred:
- Experience operating automatic bagging or packaging equipment.
- Experience with conveyors, palletizers, or other automated material handling equipment.
- Basic mechanical or maintenance experience.
- Experience in mulch, soil, landscaping materials, agricultural products, or similar manufacturing environments.
- Forklift experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- This position requires the ability to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently bend, stoop, reach, and climb.
- Work around dust, dirt, noise, and varying outdoor/indoor temperatures.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull materials as required.
- Safely access and inspect production equipment.
- Perform repetitive physical tasks associated with manufacturing operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position works in a mulch and soil manufacturing environment and may be exposed to:
- Dust and airborne particles.
- Outdoor weather conditions and temperature fluctuations.
- Loud machinery and production equipment.
- Moving conveyors, palletizing equipment, and other industrial machinery.
- Uneven surfaces and active production areas.
- Required PPE will be provided in accordance with company policy.
