Controls Engineer – Critical Power & Power SystemsPosition Summary
Experienced Controls Engineer responsible for the design, development, implementation, testing, and commissioning of control systems for low- and medium-voltage power distribution and switchgear applications. This role supports mission-critical, industrial, and utility power systems through the application of PLC programming, SCADA development, protective relaying, and electrical control system design.
The ideal candidate possesses strong technical expertise in power system controls, automation, industrial communications, and electrical protection systems, with the ability to deliver reliable, safe, and high-performance solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop control systems for low- and medium-voltage switchgear applications (480V–38kV).
- Create and review one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts.
- Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems and automated transfer schemes.
- Design and develop SCADA and HMI applications for monitoring, control, and reporting.
- Configure, test, and commission protection relays, power monitoring equipment, and automation systems.
- Perform specification reviews and ensure designs meet technical, regulatory, and project requirements.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities.
- Troubleshoot PLCs, relays, communications networks, SCADA systems, and power quality equipment.
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including sequences of operation, testing procedures, and as-built drawings.
- Support equipment startup, commissioning, and system validation activities.
- Provide technical training to operations, maintenance personnel, and project teams.
- Deliver technical support and problem resolution for installed systems when required.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, field service, and project management teams to ensure successful project execution.
QualificationsEducation
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Controls Engineering, or equivalent technical experience.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in controls engineering, power systems, switchgear automation, or related electrical engineering roles.
- Experience designing and implementing control systems for power distribution or industrial applications.
- Hands-on experience with PLC programming, SCADA systems, and protective relay integration.
- Experience supporting projects through design, testing, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Familiarity with electrical safety standards and field installation practices.

Travel & Work Environment
- Approximately 10% travel, increasing based on project requirements and experience level.
- Travel may include manufacturing facilities, project sites, and commissioning locations.
- Flexibility to support testing, startup, and technical review activities as needed.
- Ability to provide remote and on-site technical support for operational systems.
Pay: $90,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
