POSITION SUMMARY:
Viking Industrial Painting is a leader in water tank maintenance, repair, and coatings in the Midwest region and expanding across the United States, with project locations extending from Northern Minnesota to Southern Texas, Florida to California.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically minded Engineering Graphics Technician to support the layout, scaling, drafting, and production of large-scale logos, lettering, and stencils used on industrial water tank and infrastructure projects.
The ideal candidate will have experience with AutoCAD or similar drafting software, strong spatial reasoning skills, and the ability to accurately translate engineering dimensions, customer specifications, and structural drawings into production-ready layouts for large-format printing and stencil fabrication. Working closely with the Company Engineer, Project Managers, Operations, and field crews, this individual will ensure graphics are accurately scaled, positioned, and produced for successful installation in the field.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Technical Layout and Drafting:

Develop scaled layouts for logos, lettering, striping, and other graphics applied to water towers and industrial structures.

Create, modify, and maintain CAD drawings, vector files, and production layouts using AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, or similar software.

Interpret engineering drawings, tank dimensions, customer specifications, and field measurements to produce accurate installation layouts.

Calculate scaling, positioning, and alignment of graphics based on structural geometry and project requirements.

Prepare production-ready files for stencil fabrication and large-format printing.

Verify dimensions, proportions, and placement to ensure graphics install accurately on curved and irregular surfaces.

Maintain drawing revisions and project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Production Support:

Operate large-format printers, plotters, and stencil-cutting equipment.

Prepare digital files for printing, cutting, and production.

Perform quality control checks on printed graphics, stencils, and production materials.

Troubleshoot file formatting, scaling, and printing issues.

Coordinate panel layouts and material usage for oversized graphic installations.
Project Coordination:

Collaborate with the Company Engineer, Project Managers, Operations, field crews, and customers to review project requirements.

Assist in developing graphic placement plans for new and existing water tower projects.

Communicate technical considerations, production timelines, and installation requirements.

Support field personnel by providing layout documentation and installation references.

Assist with field measurements and project documentation when necessary.

Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Associate's degree or technical certification in Engineering Technology, Drafting, CAD Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered.

Experience using AutoCAD or similar CAD software.

Experience creating technical drawings, layouts, or scaled production documents.

Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator or other vector-based software is preferred.

Experience operating or supporting large-format printing, plotting, or stencil-cutting equipment is preferred.

Strong understanding of geometry, scaling, measurements, and spatial relationships.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.

Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Combination of office, production/shop, and occasional field environments.

Regular use of computers, CAD software, and large-format printing equipment.

May require standing for extended periods while operating production equipment.

Occasional travel to project sites for field measurements, project planning, or installation support.
