Job Summary: Under general supervision, this position is responsible for a high level of customer service while greeting and checking in patients, printing schedules for the day, prepping paperwork for next day appointments, making sure demographics, insurance and all intake information is updated, collecting and processing payments in a very busy Multi-Specialty Surgical Office. Must be a team player, experience with eClinical a plus.
Job Duties:
· Coordinates the daily process of collecting payments from patients by preparing the collection envelope, collecting copayments, consult fees and payment on balances then entering payments into the computer. Closes out the payment journal and balances at the end of the day.
· Prints daily schedules and distributes to the designated office personnel.
· Greets and checks in patients by changing their status in the computer, collect all insurance information, photo ID, new patient paperwork/updated paperwork (if applicable) and make any corrections in the computer. Gathering any films or records they have brought with them.
· Follows up with patients that are late by calling after 15 minutes to determine if they will arrive or if they need to be rescheduled, documents this information in their file.
· Assisting in answering phones and scheduling appointments. Helps with distributing faxes from the fax inbox
· Protects patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information in order to comply with HIPAA and Practice requirements.
· Keeps waiting room neat so patients feel comfortable and welcome.
· Performs all other duties or assume responsibilities as directed by the supervisor, physicians or other staff to maintain the office flow and support the goals of the Practice.
Skills and Qualifications:
High school graduate or GED. Minimum of one (1) year previous Medical Assistant Front Office experience in a general surgery setting preferred. Would consider overachiever new graduate Medical Assistants. Knowledge of insurance plans, medical terminology, medical office software and patient billing. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely. Able to multitask, prioritize work, be flexible and detail oriented. Maintain a high level of patient confidentiality.'
