Position SummaryThe Lead Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily housekeeping operations of the assisted living community, ensuring a clean, safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and staff. This position supervises housekeeping personnel, conducts quality inspections, manages daily work assignments, and ensures compliance with all facility policies, infection prevention standards, and applicable New York State regulations.The Lead Housekeeping Supervisor serves as a working leader who supports staff, maintains high cleanliness standards, and promotes resident satisfaction through exceptional environmental services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct housekeeping staff in the daily cleaning and sanitization of resident apartments, common areas, dining rooms, offices, restrooms, and activity spaces.
- Create and manage daily staffing assignments, schedules, and work priorities.
- Conduct routine inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety, and quality standards are consistently maintained.
- Train new employees and provide ongoing coaching on cleaning procedures, infection prevention, customer service, and workplace safety.
- Monitor employee performance, attendance, and productivity and provide feedback as needed.
- Ensure compliance with facility policies, OSHA standards, infection control protocols, and New York State assisted living regulations.
- Maintain adequate inventory levels of cleaning supplies, chemicals, linens, and equipment.
- Coordinate floor care programs, deep cleaning projects, apartment turnovers, and special event setups.
- Respond promptly to resident, family, and staff concerns regarding housekeeping services.
- Collaborate with nursing, maintenance, dining services, and administration departments to support facility operations.
- Participate in departmental audits, inspections, and regulatory surveys.
- Assist with interviewing, onboarding, employee evaluations, and disciplinary actions as directed by management.
- Maintain accurate records, inspection reports, supply inventories, and staffing documentation.
- Serve as department leader in the absence of the Director of Environmental Services.
Qualifications & Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Additional training in Environmental Services, Hospitality, Healthcare Management, or related fields preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of housekeeping experience required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience in assisted living, skilled nursing, healthcare, hospitality, or senior living environments strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of housekeeping operations, sanitation practices, and infection prevention procedures.
- Understanding of senior living standards and resident-centered care principles.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate, train, and develop team members.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic record-keeping systems preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely operate housekeeping equipment and handle cleaning chemicals.
