POSITION SUMMARYA Sander prepares sign materials and surfaces for painting, vinyl application, finishing, or installation by
sanding, smoothing, and cleaning components to meet quality standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sand metal, plastic, or composite sign surfaces using hand tools and power sanders
- Remove imperfections, rough edges, old paint, or residue from signs and sign parts
- Prepare surfaces for painting, staining, laminating, or vinyl graphics
- Inspect finished surfaces to ensure smoothness and quality standards
- Operate sanding equipment safely and maintain tools
- Clean work areas and dispose of dust or debris properly
- Assist with masking, priming, finishing, or basic sign production tasks as needed
- Follow workplace safety procedures, including use of PPE such as masks, gloves, and eye
protection
REQUIREMENTS SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely
- Good attention to detail and quality control
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift materials up to 50 pounds (lbs)
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, manual dexterity, and reach overhead
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights greater than six feet
- Ability to tolerate working in an environment with chemicals, fumes, and dust particles
- Ability to tolerate repetitive motions
- Ability to read tape measures and drawings/blueprints
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with commercial painting, manufacturing or automotive painting
- Experience using orbital sanders, grinders, or finishing tools
- Previous forklift and/or crane experience
- OSHA 10 certification
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work performed in a manufacturing and fabrication facility
- Environment may be dusty, containing paint fumes, noise, and non-temperature controlled
- Exposure to adhesives, chemicals, and fabrication equipment
· Exposure to heat conditions during the curing process · Environment containing flammable products · Exposure to electrical components · Use of PPE including safety shoes, respirator/dust mask, and safety glasses required · Additional PPE, including a face shield, gloves, and an apron, is required when mixing or transferring chemicals · Other required PPE as needed- gloves for material handling or hard hat for crane operations
