UltraSystems has an immediate opening for a Historic/ Pre-Historic Archaeologist to join our expanding Cultural Resource Department. This is a regular, full-time position to work primarily in the Southern California area, but project assignments will also involve travel to other areas. The successful candidate will be based in our Irvine office. Starting wage depends on qualifications and experience.
We assist public-agency clients with natural resource management, infrastructure development and regulatory compliance. Founded in 1994, we have more than 32 professional, technical and support staff serving clients throughout California. Currently, we are seeking the right person to fill the role of Architectural Historian to support our Irvine, CA office.

Experience and Skills
This position requires a post-degree minimum of 8 years of professional experience as an architectural historian. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience managing historic built environment projects, supervising staff, reviewing and editing reports, preparing proposals, and a depth of California and CEQA experience. Experience preparing HABS/HAER/ HALS documentation is a plus.
Position Duties
The available position is for a mid- to senior-level professional architectural historian. The successful candidate will have both technical and project management responsibilities and will be required to:
- Perform archival and historical research using primary and secondary documentary sources;
- Perform oral history research;
- Develop historic contexts and write historic overviews;
- Record, photo-document, and evaluate the significance and integrity of historical buildings, structures, and landscapes to current professional standards;
- Ability to prepare Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) 523 forms;
- Write professional technical reports of documentary and field research;
- Ability to use GPS equipment to complete in-field mapping tasks;
- Assist the Group Manager with staff supervision, training, scheduling, and project management;
- Provide internal technical review of built environment reports written by other staff for thoroughness, professionalism, clarity, and accuracy; and
- Prepare proposals and budgets, scope projects, assist with business development, and interface with clients, agencies, and the public on behalf of UltraSystems.

Salary Range: $65,000 – $85,000
