Drayage SupervisorPosition Summary
The Drayage Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily movement of imported freight from ports to distribution centers while ensuring shipments are delivered safely, efficiently, and on time. This role manages transportation operations, coordinates with carriers, brokers, vendors, and warehouse teams, and ensures the supply chain runs smoothly to support business operations. The Drayage Supervisor also leads a team, monitors shipment performance, resolves transportation issues, and continuously improves logistics processes in a fast-paced food distribution environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily transportation of imported containers from ports to distribution centers.
- Coordinate with trucking companies, carriers, brokers, vendors, and warehouse operations to ensure timely deliveries.
- Monitor purchase orders, inventory levels, and warehouse capacity to maintain an efficient supply chain.
- Track shipments from arrival through final delivery and resolve transportation delays or issues.
- Communicate shipment updates with customers and internal operations teams.
- Review inventory, shipment, and transportation reports to improve operational performance.
- Develop and improve logistics processes to increase efficiency and service levels.
- Build strong relationships with transportation partners while ensuring customer expectations are met.
- Supervise, train, coach, and support team members to achieve operational goals.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures.
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain, or drayage operations.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
- Experience managing carriers, freight brokers, or transportation providers.
- Cold chain or food distribution experience is highly preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Willingness to travel as needed to support operations.
