At MISS DIG 811, we are committed to promoting safe excavation practices and preventing damage to underground utilities across Michigan. We are seeking a Damage Prevention Liaison to join our External Affairs team and serve as a key resource for stakeholders throughout an assigned region of the state.
In this role, you will educate and support excavators, utility owners, locators, public safety agencies, and government officials by providing training, outreach, and guidance on safe digging practices and the proper use of the 811 system. You'll build meaningful relationships, conduct job site visits, participate in industry and community events, and help strengthen damage prevention efforts throughout Michigan.

Responsibilities
- Educate and train stakeholders on proper use of MISS DIG 811 services.
- Build relationships with excavators, locators, utility owners/operators, public safety agencies, and government officials.
- Visit job sites regularly and gather feedback.
- Conduct proactive outreach and maintain stakeholder contact information.
- Participate in trade shows, conferences, festivals, and safety meetings.
- Collaborate to establish regional Damage Prevention Associations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of utility damage prevention, excavation safety, locating, utilities, public relations, marketing, or related fields preferred.
- Knowledge of Public Act 174 of 2013 preferred.
- Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, ticket management systems, and mobile applications.
- Clean driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.

As a nonprofit organization founded in 1970, it helps prevent damage to underground utility infrastructure by processing excavation requests and notifying utility owners when someone plans to dig. Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
