Position Summary
Connecticut Mulch Distributors, a well-established and respected family-owned company with a 49-year history of delivering high-quality products and exceptional service, is seeking an experienced Controller / Office Manager to join our team. This key leadership role is responsible for overseeing daily administrative operations and managing the company's accounting and financial functions. The successful candidate will play an integral role in supporting operational efficiency, ensuring financial accuracy, and contributing to the continued growth and success of our organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day office operations and administrative functions
- Oversee all accounting activities, including:
- Accounts payable and accounts receivable
- General ledger maintenance
- Bank reconciliations
- Financial statement preparation
- Month-end and year-end closing processes
- Process payroll and maintain employee records
- Prepare budgets, cash flow projections, and financial reports for management
- Monitor customer accounts and collections
- Coordinate with external accountant and financial institutions
- Manage office supplies, vendor relationships, and administrative systems
- Assist with human resources administration, onboarding, and compliance
- Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulations
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred; however, we will strongly consider candidates with substantial relevant experience in lieu of a formal degree
- 5+ years of progressive accounting and office management experience (candidates with 3–5 years of strong, relevant experience will also be considered)
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Experience with QuickBooks and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Experience in wholesale distribution, trucking, logistics, or related industries is a plus
