Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and exceptionally organized Immigration Legal Assistant to support our attorneys with USCIS and removal defense matters.
The ideal candidate has at least three years of immigration law experience, is fluent in English and Spanish, and can independently manage a high-volume caseload while keeping deadlines, documents, client communications, and case information organized.
This position requires someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment. Candidates must be able to prioritize competing responsibilities, follow established procedures, and consistently follow through on assigned tasks.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare and organize immigration applications, petitions, motions, court filings, and supporting documentation
- Assist with USCIS matters and removal defense cases before EOIR
- Prepare hearing packets, exhibits, indexes, and supporting evidence
- Draft client declarations, correspondence, and other case-related documents
- Review client information and supporting documents for accuracy, consistency, and completeness
- Communicate with clients regarding document collection, appointments, case requirements, and routine case updates
- Maintain accurate and well-organized electronic and physical case files
- Track filing deadlines, hearings, appointments, and attorney assignments
- Maintain case calendars and promptly communicate scheduling changes
- Coordinate filings and submissions with USCIS, EOIR, and other government agencies
- Assist attorneys with hearing and trial preparation
- Update case management records, notes, tasks, and case statuses
- Perform administrative duties such as scanning, uploading, data entry, and correspondence
- Identify missing information, potential inconsistencies, and approaching deadlines before they become problems
- Follow firm procedures and ensure assigned cases continue moving forward
Required Qualifications
- At least three (3) years of experience working in immigration law
- Fluency in English and Spanish, including speaking, reading, and writing
- Strong knowledge of immigration forms, filing procedures, and supporting documentation
- Exceptional organizational and case-management skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate work
- Ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously
- Ability to work independently and follow through without repeated reminders
- Professional and compassionate communication skills
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive client information
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case-management systems
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
Strongly Preferred
- Experience handling EOIR and removal defense matters
- Experience preparing motions, hearing packets, exhibits, and immigration court filings
- Experience independently managing cases from document collection through filing
- Experience working in a high-volume immigration law practice
- Bachelor’s degree or comparable professional experience
