Responsibilities
The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing daily sanitation operations to ensure the highest standards of Food Safety, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. This role oversees sanitation personnel, ensures strict adherence to Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), and maintains compliance with the State of California regulations, FDA requirements, and company food safety policies.
The Sanitation Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and audit-ready production environment while supporting continuous improvement and cross-departmental collaboration.

Lead, coordinate, and supervise sanitation staff to ensure all cleaning and sanitation activities are performed in accordance with established SSOPs, safety protocols, and company standards.

Oversee daily sanitation operations in a 24-hour production environment, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and compliance across all shifts.

Conduct routine inspections and verification checks to ensure sanitation tasks are completed effectively and meet food safety standards.

Train, mentor, and coach sanitation team members on proper cleaning procedures, chemical handling, equipment sanitation, and workplace safety.

Reinforce sanitation best practices and promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and food safety awareness.

Provide performance feedback and support the professional development of sanitation staff.

Ensure compliance with FDA regulations, California health standards, and internal food safety policies.

Maintain accurate sanitation documentation, including the Master Sanitation Schedule, verification records, and daily sanitation logs.

Support internal audits, regulatory inspections, and food safety compliance initiatives.

Ensure appropriate inventory and availability of sanitation chemicals, cleaning tools, and supplies.

Monitor the proper use, storage, and titration of sanitation chemicals to maintain effectiveness and safety.

Maintain effective communication with Quality Assurance (QA), Production, and Maintenance teams to address sanitation issues, implement corrective actions, and support operational goals.

Identify sanitation risks or process improvements and proactively escalate concerns to management.

Promote and enforce safe work practices, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Ensure sanitation staff comply with all workplace safety procedures and hazard control measures.
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum 3 year of sanitation experience, preferably in food manufacturing, food processing, or a regulated production environment.

Working knowledge of sanitation chemicals, dilution procedures, and chemical titration.

Familiarity with Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), GMPs, and food safety practices.

Ability to follow written procedures, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

Basic English communication skills (verbal and written).

Basic mathematics skills for chemical measurement and documentation.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and perform physical sanitation tasks as required.

WHMIS certification is considered an asset.
