Primary Purpose:Performs a variety of tasks required to operate and maintain of a 14.7 million gallon per day (MGD) surface water treatment facility and transmission system.
Essential Duties and / or Responsibilities:Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change time to time.
· Performs a variety of laboratory tests on water.
· Adjusts chemicals as necessary to maintain optimum plant performance.
· Monitors a variety of equipment including water tank levels, periodic checks of equipment, including feed pumps, superpulsators, flash mixer, membranes, filters, pumps and distribution system.
· Maintains facility, which includes general housekeeping and grounds maintenance.
· Interacts with customers for sample intake.
Minimum Required Skills or Competencies:

· Graduation from an accredited high school (or GED) or the equivalent of any combination of education experience.
· Knowledge of the practices of water treatment and water purification analysis.
· Knowledge of chemical tests applicable to water treatment, equipment maintenance, appropriate safety precautions, and mathematics applicable to plant operations is preferred.
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, the general public, and other agencies, communication skills sufficient to exchange or convey in formation both orally and written.
· Ability to perform general physical activities that may include sitting, standing, walking, talking, seeing, hearing, lifting, reaching, climbing and repetitive motions.
· Valid North Carolina driver’s License.
· Ability to operate office equipment, including personal computer and applicable software, as required by the position.
Desired Skill or Competencies:
· Prefer candidates with at least a grade (C-SURFACE) certificate in water treatment or be willing/able to obtain within one year of employment. Applicants without the proper certification may be considered for an Operator Trainee position.

The salary for this position is based on experience and qualifications.
