Summary
Performs a variety of technical tasks in support of the family services section for the Office of Early Childhood and Family Services; functions as a liaison between families, community, and school staff to facilitate communications and encourage family involvement.
Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.

Two (2) years of experience in social services, one (1) year of which shall have included working with income-eligible families, records maintenance, and forms completion.

Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.

Must have access to a vehicle and possess an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record.

Knowledge of federal requirements for state and federal programs such as FECEP and Head Start.

Knowledge of and ability to use computers and applicable software.

Familiarity with eligibility and enrollment requirements and procedures.

Good organizational skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to work effectively with program staff, agency staff, families, families, volunteers, and community members from different ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Knowledge of Fairfax County Public Schools offices and departments, community resources, and agencies.
Major Duties/Essential Functions
- Provides support for the family services program.

Supports family involvement in local, state, and federal initiatives.

Distributes information to families, schools, neighborhoods, and agencies to advertise family service programs.

Assists with orientation activities that inform families about the early childhood and family services programs.

Assists with the recruitment/registration process.

Assists with identifying Family and Early Childhood Educational Program (FECEP) and/or Head Start- eligible students.

Conducts initial student screening for income, age, and residency eligibility in person and over the phone.

Assists families with completion of all necessary forms.

Provides information about community support agencies.

Creates and maintains student files, both hardcopy and online.

Assists teachers and FECEP assistants in the classroom with assessment screenings, field trips, translations, and small group activities.

Assists section management with health- and nutrition-related training activities.

Attends related meetings, as required.

Provides support to family involvement activities.

Encourages family involvement in activities.

Arranges transportation necessary for families to attend meetings, social services, health care facilities, and other related appointments.

Makes home visits to assist with paperwork completion and literacy support.

Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
