About the Role
The Webb School is seeking a dedicated School Nurse with an Emergency Department background and a strong interest in athletic healthcare. Reporting to the Director of Health Services, this role bridges general school nursing with sports medicine leadership.
You will work closely with the Student Affairs team, the Executive Director of Athletics, the Director of Health and Human Performance, and school counselors to manage student health, prevent injuries, and support overall student well-being.
Key Responsibilities
Athletic Health & Sports Medicine
- Program Oversight: Provide vision, leadership, and direction for the sports medicine program across all grade levels and sports.
- Injury Care & Prevention: Oversee the prevention, evaluation, and immediate treatment of athletic injuries.
- Coverage & Logistics: Ensure appropriate nursing coverage for home athletic competitions and occasional postseason team travel.
- Safety Protocols: Develop, implement, and evaluate athletic healthcare policies, heat/weather safety guidelines, and venue-specific Emergency Action Plans (EAPs).
- Athletic Admin & Compliance: Manage student-athlete annual physicals, concussion education, and clear communication of health expectations with parents and coaches.
General School Nursing & Health Operations
- Direct Care: Provide basic first aid, emergency intervention, and specialized nursing care according to physician orders and school policy.
- Care Planning: Develop individualized nursing care plans tailored to students with specific health needs.
- Training & Education: Conduct staff and faculty training on CPR/AED, EpiPens, seizure response, first aid, bloodborne pathogens, and communicable diseases.
- Records & Compliance: Maintain accurate, confidential, and compliant health records in accordance with school, state, and federal guidelines.
- Mandatory Reporting: Fulfill all state requirements for identifying and reporting suspected child abuse and neglect.
- Department Collaboration: Support the Director of Health Services, Athletic Department, and broader school mission through cross-departmental communication and assigned duties.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (BSN preferred).
- Clinical Background: Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience strongly preferred.
- Certifications:
- Active RN License.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (American Heart Association or equivalent).
- Preferred: Additional certifications in concussion management or emergency care instruction.
- Skills & Attributes:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with parents, teachers, coaches, and external providers.
- A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a genuine passion for supporting student-athletes and school community health.
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
