We are a small busy litigation practice in East Providence, RI focusing on employment law and whistleblower law. We are seeking an experienced Legal Assistant who has excellent written and verbal communication skills, is highly organized, has strong time management skills, is personable and has the ability to adapt to changing needs.
Requirements:
- 3+ years’ experience as a legal assistant working in a litigation practice
- Excellent organizational skills; strong attention to detail and strong proofreading skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience conducting client intakes, professionalism
- Ability to prioritize tasks, remain flexible and adapt to changing needs
- Must be able to work independently and as a team player
- Must have strong work ethic for quality output in a fast-paced environment and the ability to work independently and efficiently with a solo practitioner
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat
- Familiarity with TimeSlips billing software a plus
Duties include:
- Managing attorney’s schedule, including scheduling appointments, hearings, depositions, and keeping the attorney informed of case deliverables and deadlines
- Efficiently handling incoming and outgoing calls with attorneys, courts, clients, and the general public, including conducting initial client intakes
- Drafting, formatting, and proofreading correspondence and legal documents
- e-filing in federal and state courts; managing associated case tracking and follow-up
- Assist in preparing pleadings and written discovery
- Managing and entering time sheets and and preparing billing statements
- Maintaining and organizing the lifecycle of a case, including hardcopy and digital case files
