Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers on OTR routes, adhering strictly to DOT (Department of Transportation) and FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations.
- Drive a variety of freight types, including refrigerated, flatbed, tanker, and hazardous materials, ensuring proper handling and compliance with hazardous materials regulations.
- Use GPS navigation systems to plan and follow efficient routes across multiple states or regions.
- Load and unload freight manually or with equipment, ensuring cargo is secured properly for transit.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers to identify maintenance needs or safety issues.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, delivery records, and inspection reports in compliance with DOT regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding delivery schedules, route changes, or potential delays.
- Ensure all freight is delivered on time while maintaining high safety standards during loading, transit, and unloading processes.
Experience
- Valid CDL-A license with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, especially over-the-road (OTR) routes.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailer operation and logistics cargo handling.
- Knowledge of GPS navigation tools for route planning and real-time tracking.
- Experience transporting automobile parts or other specialized cargo is a plus.
- Understanding of FMCSA regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) rules, and hazardous materials regulations.
- Ability to handle manual transmission trucks and perform manual handling tasks during loading/unloading operations.
- Prior delivery driver experience involving freight management across diverse cargo types such as dangerous goods or tanker loads is highly desirable.
