The Director of Human Resources is based at the company’s headquarters in Cleveland, OH and reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer. The role is on site, with the ability to work from home occasionally. Travel is less than 20%.
Direct reports include 1) HR Manager, Talent Development 2) HRIS Specialist, and 3) Benefits, Comp & Leave Specialist. Indirect reports include 2 Talent Specialists.
This role provides corporate leadership for the Company's Human Resources function by overseeing day-to-day HR operations, programs, and systems that support business objectives and organizational growth. This role leads a team of HR professionals responsible for employee relations, talent acquisition, compensation and benefits, performance management, learning and development, HR compliance, and HR systems.
As a strategic business partner, the Director works closely with leaders to strengthen organizational capability, develop leaders, enhance employee engagement, and ensure consistent, compliant, and scalable HR practices. The role also supports acquisitions through HR due diligence, integration planning, and the successful transition of employees into the Company's people programs and culture.
Essential Responsibilities
Human Resources Leadership
- Lead the daily operations of the Human Resources function while ensuring efficient, compliant, and customer-focused service delivery.
- Manage, coach, and develop the HR team, establishing priorities, accountability, and high performance.
- Partner with business leaders on workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, talent management, and employee relations.
- Develop standardized HR policies, processes, and metrics that support informed business decisions and continuous improvement.
Employee Relations & Compliance
- Provide leadership on employee relations matters, workplace investigations, performance issues, policy interpretation, and conflict resolution.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and maintain effective HR policies and employment practices.
- Partner with legal counsel on employment matters as appropriate and promote a positive, respectful workplace culture.
Talent Acquisition & Development
- Oversee talent acquisition, onboarding, and workforce planning strategies that support business growth.
- Lead learning and development initiatives, including leadership development, compliance training, succession planning, talent reviews, and career development.
- Foster a high-performance culture through effective performance management, coaching, and employee development programs.
Compensation, Benefits & HR Operations
- Oversee compensation programs, salary administration, benefits strategy, annual planning processes, and vendor relationships.
- Ensure competitive, equitable, and cost-effective compensation and benefit programs.
- Lead HRIS administration, workforce reporting, HR analytics, and process improvements that enhance operational effectiveness and the employee experience.
Acquisition Integration
- Support acquisitions through HR due diligence, integration planning, employee onboarding, HR systems implementation, benefits transition, organizational communications, and change management.
- Partner with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure successful integration of employees, policies, systems, and culture.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
- Master's degree or MBA preferred.
Experience
- Eight or more years of progressive Human Resources experience, including at least five years leading HR professionals.
- Experience supporting a growing manufacturing organization strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership in employee relations, talent acquisition, learning and development, compensation and benefits, performance management, HR compliance, HR systems, and organizational change.
- Experience supporting acquisitions and HR integration activities preferred.
- Experience with HRIS platforms such as Dayforce, Workday, or similar systems.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of U.S. employment laws and HR best practices.
- Proven leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to align HR strategies to organizational objectives.
- Excellent communication, analytical, project management, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to lead multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and effectively influence organizational change.
- International HR experience is a plus.
Preferred Certification
- SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification preferred.
