Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Payroll and Accounting Specialist to join our team. Key Responsibilities
- Process payroll accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Set up new employees and maintain existing employee records.
- Enter and verify employee time and payroll data.
- Process earnings, deductions, direct deposits, and third-party payments.
- Ensure accurate federal, state, and local payroll tax withholdings, including unemployment tax reporting.
- Prepare and post payroll-related general ledger journal entries.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and general ledger balances.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including account reconciliations.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with preparing financial reports and supporting documentation for clients.
- Research payroll and accounting issues and provide clear, professional responses to clients and team members.
- Manage multiple client requests while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Maintain the confidentiality of payroll and financial information.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Skills
- Two to three years of payroll processing experience required.
- One to three years of general ledger accounting experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of payroll software and accounting software.
- Experience preparing journal entries and performing account reconciliations.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and payroll tax requirements.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively under deadlines.
- Self-motivated with the initiative to work independently while supporting teammates during high-volume periods.
- Dependable with a consistent record of regular and reliable attendance.
