We are looking for a detail-oriented Sr. Accountant to support key accounting operations for a Contract position based in Winooski, Vermont. This role will oversee core financial activities, ensure the accuracy of ledger activity, and help maintain timely completion of the monthly close cycle. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on accounting experience, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead monthly close activities by preparing, reviewing, and finalizing financial records within established deadlines.
- Maintain the general ledger by recording and validating accounting activity to ensure complete and accurate reporting.
- Prepare journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation and confirm entries are posted correctly.
- Perform account reconciliations regularly to identify discrepancies, resolve variances, and keep balances current.
- Complete bank reconciliations by comparing transactions against internal records and investigating outstanding items.
- Review financial data for accuracy and consistency, escalating issues and recommending corrective actions when needed.
- Support reporting and audit-related requests by organizing documentation and providing clear accounting analysis.
- At least 3 years of accounting experience in a senior-level or closely related role.
- Demonstrated experience managing month-end close responsibilities with a high level of accuracy.
- Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting and journal entry preparation.
- Hands-on experience completing account reconciliations and bank reconciliations.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Desktop in an accounting environment.
- Solid analytical skills with the ability to investigate and resolve financial discrepancies.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage deadlines in a contract position.
