Overview
Custom Climate is a Sarasota based HVAC company serving the suncoast from Englewood to Sun City. We are not private equity and are locally owned.
We are seeking an experienced Level 4 Senior HVAC Technician who thrives on autonomy, technical precision, and top-tier customer service. While our primary focus is residential comfort, we also handle light-to-heavy commercial accounts. You will be the go-to specialist capable of running residential diagnostic calls independently one day and executing a condenser or compressor replacement on a 25- to 50-ton commercial system the next.
If you take pride in diagnosing root causes rather than just swapping parts, and want to work with a team that values your expertise, we’d love to talk to you.
Responsibilities
- Independent Diagnostics: Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair on residential split systems, heat pumps, inverter/communicating units, and commercial packaged/split systems (up to 50 tons) without needing field supervision.
- Commercial Heavy Repairs: Execute major component replacements, including large-tonnage compressors, condenser coils, line sets, and control boards on 3-phase commercial systems.
- Refrigerant & System Integrity: Perform large-capacity recovery, triple evacuation to sub-500 microns, vacuum decay testing, and precise weigh-in charging on multi-circuit systems.
- Manufacturer Tech Line Communication: Interface directly with OEM technical support lines using precise diagnostic data, electrical readings, and systemic evidence to resolve complex glitches or process warranty approvals efficiently.
- Electrical & Controls Mastery: Read and interpret complex residential and commercial line-voltage/low-voltage wiring schematics. Troubleshoot 208/230V and 460V 3-phase systems, VFDs, phase monitors, and step-down transformers.
- System Commissioning & Airflow: Set subcooling/superheat, measure static pressure, adjust blower speeds, and verify airflow dynamics to ensure optimal efficiency and system longevity.
- Client Interface & Leadership: Communicate clear diagnostic findings and repair options to residential homeowners and commercial facility managers. Serve as an informal technical resource or mentor for Level 1–3 technicians when needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 7+ years of hands-on field experience in residential service with demonstrated experience servicing commercial systems up to 50 tons.
- Certifications: EPA Universal Certification required. NATE certification or commercial safety training (Lockout/Tagout, OSHA-10) is a strong plus.
- Technical Skills: Expert knowledge of refrigeration cycles, 3-phase electrical diagnostics, inverter technologies, and duct static pressure evaluation.
- Autonomy: Proven track record of working independently, managing time effectively, and solving complex technical problems on the first visit.
- Licensing & Driving: Valid driver’s license with a clean, insurable driving record.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, navigate roofs via ladders, work in attics/crawlspaces, and perform physical labor in warm Florida conditions.
