This position is responsible for driving, operating, or controlling various pieces of construction equipment, including but not limited to motor graders, excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, dump trucks, and cargo trucks. Exact duties can depend on a heavy equipment operator’s
specialization.
Safely operates heavy equipment in compliance with the company’s operating safety policies and procedures to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock, gravel, and other materials.
Provides recommendations for maintaining and improving environmental performance.
Perform various activities including but not limited to road building, fine grading, finishing, sloping, banking, backfilling, ditching, loading, excavating, stockpiling, road surface maintenance, building and maintaining road berms, and loading trucks.
Loads and unloads equipment from vehicles and trailers.
Ensures company equipment, material, and the work site are maintained, kept clean, and stored in a safe manner.
Collects and disposes of scrap, excess materials, and refuse.
Observes distribution of materials to adjust machine settings or material flow and indicate low spots for workers to add materials.
Ensure operation of equipment is within capabilities and limitations - grease, oil, and repair equipment.
Perform required safety inspections and complete documentation.

Ability to operate equipment within designated area with attention to detail.
Ability to travel for up to 2 weeks at a time.
Ability to work day, night and weekend shifts.
Ability to work in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of grades and interpret roadway plans and drawings.
Demonstrate a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.
Ability to judge distances and slopes accurately and make decisions based on verifiable standards.
Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of machines or vehicle to exact positions.
Strong knowledge of materials, methods, machines, and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
